Detailed Itinerary
Your driver/guide will meet you upon arrival in Casablanca, depending on arrival time, we may want to head to the city center where you can make a visit to the Hassan II Mosque or take pictures from the outside; however, if your arrival takes place at night, then we will take the highway and drive to Rabat.
After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad, you will explore the best of Rabat starting from the dramatic Oudayas Kasbah that panoramically overlooks the Bou Regreg River, the city of Sale and the Atlantic Ocean. The Kasbah (fortress) goes back to the 11th when the Almoravid warriors from the Sahara built a stronghold to fight against the Spanish & the Portuguese. In the 12th century, the Almohads demolished it all and rebuilt it from scratch starting with the big mosque, walls and gates. You can meander around its clean streets and sample the real cultural lifestyle of the Moroccans.
Rabat has been the official capital of the Kingdom of Morocco since 1912 & home of the King, and the Royal Family. After visiting the Oudayas Kasbah, you will stretch your legs in the Hassan Tower that can be seen from different directions. Adjacent to the tower, you can visit the Mohammed V Mausoleum where the current King’s grandfather, father and uncle are all buried.
Later, you will continue on the track through the highway to Meknes, which is the second Imperial City in our tour Upon arrival, you may want to start your tour of this mysterious city from the Bab (Gate) Mansour, which is the most beautiful & largest gate in the Islamic World with its intricate geometric designs that catch every visitors’ eyes. Meknes was founded by the late Alaouite Sultan Moulay Ismail back in the 17th century who turned it into a Moroccan Versailles. Stretch your legs in the colorful olive market before visiting the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum.
You will then visit the Royal Granaries & Stables where the Sultan used to look after his 12.000 horses along with storing grains. You will later drive to the Roman Ruins in Volubilis where you can have a guided tour of this archaeological site offering an opportunity to learn about the Roman Civilisation in the north of Africa. Later, you will drive to Fes, which is our final destination for today.
Today, you will spend the day exploring the best of Fes with a local tour guide. Drive uphill where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Fes el-Bali (Oldest Fes), which is the largest car-free district in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fes el-Bali goes back to the 7th century and is mysteriously unique as once you get into its heart, you will be taken back to Medieval Times.
Take pictures by the golden gates of the Royal Palace, then meander around the Mellah (former Jewish Quarter) while learning about the Jewish Communities that used to live with Moroccan Muslims in peaceful coexistence. Now, you will get into the heart of the mysterious Fes el-Bali with its countless labyrinthine alleyways, bustling cafes, vibrant Souks (markets) and much more. Pass-by the Koranic Schools including the famous Qarawiyyin University, which is the oldest university in the world.
You will include a visit to the Chouara Tanneries where the bes quality of leather is being made using traditional methods. Meander around the Souks and sample the lifestyle before heading back to your accommodation in the afternoon.
After having breakfast in your Riad/hotel in Fes, you will head to Marrakech with an interesting drive through the Middle Atlas & fertile plains offering breathtaking views. You will include many breaks for chilling out and for taking pictures. You will have lunch in Beni Mellal before reaching Marrakech in the late afternoon.
Once we arrive in Marrakech, you may want to visit the famous Jemaa El-Fna Square (the focal point of Marrakech). In the evening, the Square turns into a carnival of a thousand and one night filled with musicians, magicians, story-tellers, acrobats, snake-charmers, fortune-tellers & food stalls that offer Moroccan delicacies.
Today, you will spend the day exploring what Marrakech has to offer with a local tour guide. Drive through the Ville Nouvelle that was built by the French when Morocco was a French Protectorate from 1912 to 1956. Visit the botanical gardens of Majorelle that are owned by Yves Saint Laurent, which is a little paradise on earth with its countless plants brought from all over the world along with the building painted in blue-Majorelle.
You will drive to the Medina where you can form an idea about the history of La Koutoubia Mosque, which is the landmark of Marrakech and can be seen from different directions. Visit the 15th century Saddian Tombs, the 19th century Bahia Palace that was built by the Sultan’s Vizier before getting into the heart of Marrakech Medina. The bustling Souks are organized into sections according to specialty before ending our journey in the Jemaa el-Fna Square.
